Lizard Leg Effects is a small family run business based in Gonzales, LA. All of the circuit work, soldering, builds and designs are done by me, Steve. My wife, Brandi, does all of the graphics on the pedals, while our son, John, helps out with packaging the pedals for shipping and helping to keep the shop clean.LLE started by demand after Hurricane Katrina when I was looking to replace the gear I had lost. I was shopping for a pedal and I just couldn't find exactly what I wanted. Electronics has been a hobby for longer than guitar so the two finally met and the first LLE pedal was designed and built. A few friends saw the pedal and asked me to build one for them, and then a few more, and then a few more. One day my phone starts ringing from people who were given my number asking if I could build one for them.
Scott Jackson, a bass player from NOLA, after receiving the first LLE pedal ever sold, asked if I could custom design an effect pedal for his bass rig. After countless meetings and over a period months, the one-off custom built Komodo was born. From the research and design on Scott's circuit, I continued designing a circuit I wanted for myself. Shortly after this pedal was prototyped out, I was fortunate enough to meet Dave Malone of the New Orleans Radiators and he demoed the pedal and immediately ordered one. Since the pedal at that time was a prototype, Dave suggested the name, Flying Dragon, as well as the color scheme of purple, green and gold in honor of Mardi Gras.
As for the company name - The "Lizard" part comes from my wife and I having a very strong interest in lizards - we even have a 4 foot metal sculpture of one on our living room wall. The "Leg" part is due to the fact that I am a below knee amputee and have a really good sense of humor in regards to jokes about my leg.
The rest is history.
